Mr. Garry Eldon “Chuck” Chilton, Jr., 55, of Pilot Mountain, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 4, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem. Mr. Chilton was born August 14, 1969, in Surry County, the oldest of three children born to Deborah Doby Chilton and the late Garry Eldon Chilton, Sr. Chuck devoted his life to serving others, spending nearly 15 years on the front lines as a critical care paramedic with Surry County Emergency Medical Services. With courage, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to the well-being of others, he touched countless lives – often on the worst days of theirs. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring new EMTs, or simply offering a comforting word in the back of an ambulance, Chuck served with unwavering professionalism and heart. He began his career and quickly became a trusted and respected figure in the emergency services community. Known for his calm demeanor under pressure and quick thinking, Chuck was the kind of person you wanted by your side in a crisis. Outside of work, Chuck was a lifetime member of Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad and a faithful member of Westfield Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lesa Ann George Chilton; a son, George Lee Chilton and his sweetheart, Bailey Singleton; his mother, Deborah Doby Chilton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Adrienne and Byron Isaacs and Jamie and Kenneth Simmons; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Elizabeth George; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Vickie George; his nephews, J.T. Simmons, Brodie Simmons, Cory George, and Samuel George; and his niece, Dakota Simmons. In addition to his father, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George Allen and Annie Ruth Hooker Doby; and his paternal grandparents, Eldon Lee and Lottie Tucker Chilton. A service of worship and celebration of Chuck’s life will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Westfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Blake Bowman, the Rev. Bradley L. Quesinberry, and the Rev. D.C. Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Simmons Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Westfield Baptist Church.
