Mr. Gary Wayne Flippin, 64, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 26, 2026, at Duke University Hospital in Durham. Mr. Flippin was born July 25, 1962, in Surry County, to the late Joseph Ernest and Virginia Mills Flippin. Gary loved his family with all his heart, and they were the greatest blessing in his life. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and strength, even on his tough days. Gary fought health battles most of his life, and he was a true warrior, courageously battling with unwavering determination. Through it all, he did not complain, choosing instead to face each day with strength and perseverance. Although his earthly journey has ended, his family finds comfort knowing he has been made whole and is rejoicing in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. They also celebrate the many things that brought him happiness, including sports, racing, and classic cars. He is survived by his wife, Angie Holder Flippin; a daughter, Tia Goins (Matt); a son, Tanner Flippin; a daughter-in-law, Shayla Flippin; a grandson, Sawyer Flippin; a granddaughter, Taylen Flippin; two brothers, Junior Flippin (Lois) and Teddy Flippin (Linda); five sisters, Cathy Collins, Shirley Tate, Connie Edwards, Bonnie Sechrist, and Susan Gates; a sister-in-law, Lisa Hawks (Michael); a god-granddaughter, Kendyl Brinkman; his grandpups, Gracie, Maple, Roscoe, and Ellie; five nephews, Randy Collins (Sandra), Joe Collins (Jackie), Jeff Chandler (Jaymee), Teddy Flippin, Jr. (Sebrena), and Jason Gates; eight nieces, Melanie Collins, Bobbie Jo Martinez, Annette Lamareaux (Jimmy), Monica Chamberlain (Mickey), Stacy Cardin (Adam), Joanie Vaughan (Jamie), Jenny Mendoza (Danny), and Savannah Rutt (Danny); twenty-two great nieces and nephews; and eleven great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Flippin was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Shirley Holder; five brothers-in-law, Jim Sechrist, Mack Collins, Leo Tate, Ricky Gates, and Wesley Edwards; and a great niece, Erica Martinez. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Grant Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church. If you plan to attend, the family kindly requests that you wear your favorite sports team or racing T-shirt, along with jeans, shorts, or whatever makes you comfortable. If you own a classic car or sports car, they invite you to drive it in Gary’s honor, as they wish to celebrate and remember the things he loved most. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
