Gary Joe Simmons

Mr. Gary Joe Simmons, age 81, of Westfield, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at his residence with his loving family by his side. Mr. Simmons was born February 15, 1943, to the late James Gary and Pattie Hart Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a great man of God and worked many years as a project manager for RJ Reynolds. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Shellia Simmons of the home, daughter, Shea Simmons Smith (Bobby); grandchildren, CJ Smith and Cole Smith; sister, Rebecca Simmons Taylor; brother, Chris Simmons (Tammy); special nephews and nieces, Ethan Simmons, Jesse Simmons and Meghan Roberson, Shelley Preston, Sara Moore, and Shannon Stanley; sister-in-law, Fonda Pendry (Danny Joe); sister-in-law, Sarah Simmons; several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Simmons; sister-in-law, Libby Weatherman. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3 PM at Brown Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Arlis Thomas and Rev. Eddie Carter officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1 PM until the time of the service at 3 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites provided by Mount Airy Post #2019 and Pilot Mountain Post #9436. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Simmons during his sickness. In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Brown Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
