Mrs. Georgia Laura Johnson Freeman, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday evening, July 20, 2025, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility. Mrs. Freeman was born February 10, 1935, in Surry County, the daughter of the Rev. Hardin Atkins Johnson and Betty Shelton Johnson. Georgia graduated from Beulah High School in 1953. In her early years, after marrying, she devoted herself to raising her five sons – a role she cherished and fulfilled with love, patience, and strength. Though she did not get her driver’s license until the age of 60, she embraced that milestone with determination and independence. At 62, she began working in the bakery at Lowes Foods, where she faithfully served customers with a warm smile and kind spirit for nearly 15 years. A devoted member of Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall, she lived out her faith through quiet service, compassion, and steadfast strength. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Mary Ann Freeman, Philip Freeman, Bradley and Kim Freeman, Scott and Jill Freeman, and Liz Freeman Jenkins; her grandchildren, Philip Freeman, Jr. and Jennifer Freeman, Stephanie and David Hauser, Jessica and Aric Norby, Justin and Jennifer Freeman, Michael Freeman, Candice and Ryan Bennett, Dori Freeman and Nicholas Falk, Anna Freeman, Laura and Dustin Cockram, and Will Freeman; her great-grandchildren, Luke Freeman, Rebekah Freeman, Addison Freeman, Jax Freeman, Osa Freeman, Jayce Cockram, Ellie Bennett, Nelson Bennett, Xaiden Hauser, Brennan Hauser, and Ashton Hauser; a brother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Shirley Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eldridge Freeman; a son, Mark Robertson Freeman; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Freeman; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Freeman; and several brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at The Peoples Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Gammons and the Rev. Zane Fishel officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
