Georgia Etta Collins Puckett

Mrs. Georgia Etta Collins Puckett, 94, of Ararat, VA passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Patrick County on January 18, 1919 to the late Thomas Thurman and Susan Minnie Bowman Collins. Mrs. Puckett was a homemaker and was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dennis Patterson of Mt. Airy, Linda Puckett of Ararat, VA, Gaynell and Donald Thomas of Mt. Airy; a son, Tommy Puckett of Ararat, VA; grandchildren and spouses, Bethany and Doug Shepherd, Misti and Chris Mauldin, Shannon Haynes and fiancé Terry Corns, Casey Thomas, Donna Thomas, Amy and Curt Lawson; great grandchildren, Cole Mauldin, Carson Mauldin, Jordan Upchurch, Ashton Lawson, Abigail Shepherd, and Sarah Shepherd; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Scott of Ararat, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, James Clifford and Sue Collins of Fries, VA; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Puckett was preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Puckett; sons, Taylor Puckett, and Herman Junior "Pete" Puckett; sisters, Alpha Collins, Betty Lou Thomas, Irene Bowman, and Shirley Bowman; brothers, Walter, Thurman, and Harry Collins. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Doe Run Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service and other times at the home of Betty and Dennis Patterson.
