Geraldine Hawks Wood

Mrs. Geraldine Hawks Wood, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 2, 2024, at the SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville.  Mrs. Wood was born March 15, 1944, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Harvey Loman Hawks, Sr. and Etta Hull Hawks.  Geraldine worked at Smart Top Hosiery for many years, and she later worked as an in-home caregiver.  She was a Christian and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.  She is survived by her husband, James Hardin “Jim” Wood; a son and daughter-in-law, James Bradley “Brad” and Gaye Wood; a granddaughter and her husband, Lexie and Mitchell Dowell; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Juanita Hawks East, Fannie Hawks Beane, and Nelda and Jimmy Johnson; a brother, Harvey Loman “H.L.” Hawks, Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and a fur baby, Bentley.   In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by an infant sister, Delta Faye Hawks; and a brother, Donald Owen Hawks.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating.  Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.   At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Juanita Hawks East in the Pine Ridge community.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Elder Gary Lowe, 1868 Osborne Joyce Road, Pilot Mountain, NC  27041.
