Gilmer Wayne Hiatt

Mr. Gilmer Wayne Hiatt, age 69, of Mt. Airy, Passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Hiatt was born in Surry County on August 20, 1947 to Porter Gilmer and Nancy Verona Welborn HIatt. He was Sales Manager with Foothills Hardware. Mr. Hiatt will be dearly missed by all his loving family and many friends. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Deborah Fleming Hiatt; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Amy Hiatt; a daughter, Julie Hornaday; grandchildren, Taylor Hiatt, Dylan Hiatt, Kortney Hiatt, Tyler Hornaday and Allison Hornaday; sisters and brother-in-law, Rebecca Smith; and Ann and Dennis Faw; brothers and sister-in-law, Arthur Hiatt and Joel and Teresa Hiatt; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Michelle Hiatt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Shelton Church of the Brethren by Rev. Steve Johnson. Mr. Hiatt will lie in state at the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home.
