Glen Wise Martin

Mr. Glen Wise Martin, 98, of 112 Englewood Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Martin was born December 27, 1916, in Carroll County, VA, one of five children born to the late Edgar Arthur and Ida Mae Largen Martin. Glen retired as a saw machine operator from Bassett Furniture Inc. and was a faithful member of Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church in Claudville, VA. Above all, he was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and the Rev. Buford Jessup of Mount Airy and Ruth and Willie Allen of King; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Gaye Martin and Wayne and Ann Martin, all of Mount Airy; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ethelene Hall Martin; a granddaughter, Jennifer Martin; two sisters, Hassie Haynes and Dessie Haynes; and two brothers, Troy Martin and Elbert Martin. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Buford Jessup, Dr. Tracy Jessup, and Chaplain Trent Jessup, United States Navy, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or a charity of the donor's choice.
