Glenn Marion Boykin

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our sister, Barbara Glenn Marion Boykin, 70, of Melbourne, Florida, on May 7, 2025, due to cardiac arrest. Glenn was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, on April 21, 1955, to the late Thomas Arrington Marion and Irene Forbes Marion. She graduated from Mt. Airy High School, as well as Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, Glenn was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie Boykin. For nine years, Glenn and Robb owned and operated a successful gourmet Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. It was not unusual to see a celebrity in their restaurant from time to time. After moving to Melbourne, Florida, they opened a smaller version of their Atlanta restaurant two blocks from the ocean. Glenn loved living in Melbourne, Florida. Being at the beach and next to the calming ocean was her favorite place to be.

Glenn had a zest for life, and she never met a stranger. She had more friends than anyone could imagine. Glenn was so funny, one would often be bent over with laughter being around her. Not surprisingly, she was voted Wittiest in her senior year in high school. She was also honored to become a Page with the North Carolina General Assembly.

Being very athletic, Glenn excelled on her high school tennis team, receiving the distinction of All-State. She went on to become a top player on the Virginia Intermont tennis team as well. For several summers, she was a lifeguard at Mount Airy Country Club.

Glenn loved the Episcopal Church. Even when she was unable to attend church, she always held the Episcopal Church close to her heart, and she never forgot the quaint Trinity Episcopal Church with the red door on North Main Street in Mt. Airy. Glenn was an avid reader. She loved old movies, antiquing and collecting unique and unusual items. She loved music - especially Elvis, Bob Dylan and Bonnie Raitt. It was with joy and love that Glenn constantly kept up with, and visited, when possible, her lifelong friends from Mt. Airy and her Virginia Intermont friends.

Glenn is survived by her sisters, Alice (Kandy) Marion MacCarthy of Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte Marion Bowers (Vinson) of New Bern, North Carolina. She is also survived by her nephews Brian MacCarthy of Atlanta and Matthew MacCarthy (Kristen) of Athens, Georgia, as well as her special dear friend, Mark Richard of Mt. Airy.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Glenn would have wished that you would think of her the next time you are on a beach looking at the ocean.
