Mr. Glenn David Simpson, 80, of 484 Roundabout Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday evening, January 15, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Simpson was born November 1, 1932, in Surry County, the son of the late John and Mae McMillian Simpson. Glenn worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years for several excavation companies and was a member of Turkey Ford Baptist Church. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Ricky and Vickie G. Simpson of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Chad David Simpson and his wife, Christie, of Glade Valley and Ty Draughn of Mount Airy; two great-grandsons, Jacob David Simpson and Joshua Troy Simpson, both of Glade Valley; two sisters, Frances Simpson Atkins and Polly Simpson Watson, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Alice Smith Simpson; and nine brothers, Sherman Dallas Simpson, Herman Gilbert Simpson, William Cirgus Simpson, Gurnie Ross Simpson, John Jack Simpson, Troy June Simpson, Billy Lawrence Simpson, Johnny Carroll Johnson, and Sparger Simpson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Spencer Edmonds officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
