Gloria Childress Haynes

Mrs. Gloria Childress Haynes, age 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Haynes was born in Surry County on August 15, 1944, to the late William Howard Childress and Josie Belle Pack Childress. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Haynes worked many years within the hosiery mills, even having a career working at Surry Community College. Mrs. Haynes is survived by her loving husband, James “Pete” Reedford Haynes; daughter and son-in-law, Buffy Scott and Mike; son and fiancé’, Jody Haynes and Becca Noah; grandchildren, Natalie Haynes, Willow Haynes, Adley White, Paxton Noah, special fur-baby, Maggie; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her sisters, Melverine Gammons, Margaret Smith; brothers, Bob Childress, Roy Childress, Jim Childress. A graveside service for Mrs. Haynes will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Rusty Reed officiating. There will be no formal visitation held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
