Gracie Evelyn Smart Epperson

Mrs. Gracie Evelyn Smart Epperson, age 89, of Ararat, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 22, 2024. She has fought the good fight of faith and has finished her race and entered into the arms of Jesus, the one she loved. She was born on April 6, 1935 in Patrick County to the late James Delmar and Ada Branch Smart. She was a beautiful soul, and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ in word and in deed. Gracie enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, and watching the Atlanta Braves. She was a loving wife, mother, Maw Maw, and Grammie Gracie, who will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 69 years, William L. “Bill” Epperson; children, Patricia Doiron (David), Cynthia Fitzgerald (Keith), Larry Epperson (Alisha), and Linda Epperson of the home; six grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Barker (Dennis), Betty Jean Stultz (Jerry). In addition to her parents Mrs. Epperson was preceded in death by sister, Helen Pack; brothers, Willie, Fred, Charlie, and Leon Smart. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Pastor David Doiron. Burial will follow in Unity Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 PM until the time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
