It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Granville Cleveland Nunn, known and loved by all as “Chuck,” who departed this life on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the age of 74, following a brief illness.
Born on July 12, 1951, in Westfield, North Carolina, to Hazel Tilley Nunn and Cleve Nunn, Chuck spent his entire life in the community he called home. Westfield was not simply the place where he lived — it was a part of who he was. Chuck was a proud graduate of Appalachian State University, where he earned his degree in business. Known for his quiet strength and unwavering discipline, he carried a deep commitment to both his health and his principles. Rain or shine, in sickness and in health, he could be found taking his daily one-hour walk — a testament to the determination and resolve that defined him. Those who knew him well understood that his dedication to that daily ritual reflected something larger: a man who showed up, every single day, for the things that mattered. Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes. He had a generous and caring spirit, always willing to lend a hand or offer support to anyone in need. His quiet presence was a steady comfort to those around him, and his kindness left a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched.
After the passing of their mother, Chuck’s sister Carolyn returned to Mount Airy after 50 years in St. Louis, Missouri, to be with him — a testament to the deep bond they shared and the devotion of family that defined their lives. Chuck is survived by his beloved sister, Carolyn N. Gregory of Mount Airy, North Carolina; his nephew, Scott Gregory of The Woodlands, Texas, his wife Doris, and their three children, Hanna, Cameron, and Jack; and his nephew, Brian K. Gregory of Austin, Texas, his wife Carrie, and their children, Gavin and Olivia Gregory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Tilley Nunn and Cleve Nunn. A quiet soul, a generous heart, and a faithful friend to all — Chuck will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Danny Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
