Obituary

Mr. Johnnie “Harold” McCraw, age 76, of Mount Airy entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. McCraw was born on December 17, 1949, in Surry County to the late John Harper and Mary Frances Lee McCraw. Harold was a respected, faithful, and a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served in various roles, including deacon, the personnel and stewardship committees, as well as men’s ministry. Additionally, Harold enjoyed singing in the choir and was always eager to help the church and its members in any way, while his health allowed. He placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was the center of his life, along with being a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Mr. McCraw will leave behind a legacy of Christian faith and love for his family that will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Betty Jo Edwards McCraw; his beloved children and their spouses, Jarrod McCraw and Amber, Daniel McCraw and Beth, Kelly McCraw King and Travis; nine grandchildren, Breanna Goins Smith and John, Harper Kade McCraw, Ally Elizabeth McCraw, Lacy Omelia Goins, Hadley Jane McCraw, Kate Ansley McCraw, Ellie Grace King, Hollis Kathleen McCraw, Casen Edward McCraw; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry McCraw and Janice; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shelvy Edwards and Roger, Bobby Sikes, Lois Harmon, Judy Lundy; along with several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristin Olivia Goins; a son-in-law, Michael Shane Goins; a brother and sister-in-law, Arless Harper McCraw and Kathleen; and a sister and brother-in-law, Bobby Lou McCraw Galyean and Zane; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willard Clay Edwards and Nancy; sister-in-law, Joyce Edwards Sikes; brother-in-law, Jerry Dale Harmon; and brother-in-law, Donald Lee Lundy. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Reverend John Smith and Brother James Collins officiating. A private inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, North Carolina 27017 or to Antioch Baptist Church Blessing Box Fund, 137 Antioch Avenue, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
