Mrs. Harris Cora Leonard Lawson, 84, of 130 Wall Street, Mount Airy, passed away early Sunday morning, March 18, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Lawson was born May 13, 1927, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late John Reuben and Cora Mae Dowell Leonard. Harris retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Debra Lawson of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Jessica Lawson and her fiancé, Drew Belton, of Mount Airy; a grandson, Jonathan Lawson of Mount Airy; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Violet Hall and Libby and Robert Nunn, all of Cana, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband, John Odell Lawson; a sister, Iris Dawson; and four brothers, Grift Leonard, Sam Leonard, Ethard Leonard, and Melvin Leonard. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Barry Clement, the Rev. Bailey Elmore, and the Rev. Ted Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Mark and Debra Lawson, 1509 West Wensley Drive, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
