Mr. Harry Dean Poindexter, 75, of 1017 White Dirt Road, Dobson, passed away Monday night, March 31, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Poindexter was born November 10, 1938, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Ralph and Callie Mae Brendle Poindexter. Dean worked at Proctor-Silex Inc. for many years and later retired from Tyco Electronics. Mr. Poindexter was a member of Central View Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Andy Berman of Acworth, GA, Debbie and Scott Miller of Roswell, GA, and Deanna and Jeff Edmonds of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and DeAnn Poindexter of Siloam; twelve grandchildren, Adam Fishback, Rachel Fishback, Lauren Miller, Caroline Miller, Nolan Poindexter, Audrey Poindexter, Reagan Poindexter, Callie Edmonds, Brady Edmonds, Jacob Edmonds, Jade McCormick Kiger and her husband, Anthony, and Chase McCormick; two great-grandchildren, Mason Kiger and Anistyn Kiger; a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Michael Hardy of Siloam; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Lucille Poindexter and Don and Norma Poindexter, all of Dobson, and Dale and Linda Poindexter of Elkin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poindexter was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Moorefield Poindexter; a daughter, Penny Poindexter McCormick; and a grandson, Stephen Fishback. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Central View Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenny Pardue and Brother Butch Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Central View Missionary Baptist Church, and other times at the home of Deanna and Jeff Edmonds, 170 Surrey Court Drive, Dobson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Poindexter family.
