Miss Hattie Mae “Penny” Love, age 85, of Ararat, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Waddell Nursing and Rehab. Miss Love was born in Carroll County, on September 3, 1940, to the late Rufus Franklin and Mattie Mae Tobler Love. She was a loving sister, aunt, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Miss Love was a very faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church (Cana) for many years, as long as her health permitted. She was a woman of many talents; she went to school in Berea, Kentucky, later she graduated from University of Tennessee with her master’s degree in education. After school, she began her career in home demonstration. She taught at Radford University, was a secretary at Joy Ranch Home for Children, and went back to college at Surry Community College to obtain her CNA license, later working at Northern Regional Hospital. After working at the hospital, Miss Love worked taking the Census, later taking care of her mother. She later finished out her career at Levering Orchard. Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Patricia Lineberry; nieces and their spouses, Anita McMillan Barbour, Dahna Lineberry and Todd Jennings, Debbie Crouse and Bobby, Rhonda Lineberry; nephews, Scott McMillan, Patrick Love and Alissa; four great nieces; two great nephews; five great-great nieces; eight great-great nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Love was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Eddie Lee Willard and Charles, Mary McMillan and Earl, Ray Lineberry; brother, James C. Love; niece, Tammy Vernon. A funeral service to honor Miss Love’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist (Cana), with the Rev. Andrew Willard officiating. Burial will follow in the Love Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Love family.
