Mrs. Hazel Parker Byrd, 90, formerly of 416 Broad Street, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011, at Twelve Oaks Retirement Center. Mrs. Byrd was born June 23, 1920, in Surry County, to the late Joseph Washington and Betty Creed Parker. She was a retired floral designer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Sandra Byrd of Mount Airy and Joe and Jane Byrd of Garland, TX; grandchildren and their spouses, John and Lisa Byrd of Spring Hope, James Byrd, Jr. and his fiancée, Amy N. Snow, of King, Andrea Byrd and Ron Dyer of Dallas, TX, Alan and Louise Wardle of Mount Airy, and Beth and Allen Mabon of Nassau, Bahamas; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Byrd; a sister, Ollie Doby; and six brothers, Lonnie, Jody, Elmer, Leonard, Henry, and Clarence Parker. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 29, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Calvary Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Calvary Baptist Church, 314 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
