Helen Lera Mitchell White

Helen Lera Mitchell White, age 94, of Dobson, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2022.  She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born February 9, 1928, to the late George and Hester Pilson Mitchell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Delbert White, a sister, Vilena Smith, a foster brother, Roshell Mayes, and a special son-in-law, Rodney Foster.  

Helen attended High Point Business School.  She retired from First Union Bank in Dobson.  She was a dedicated member of Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.  Helen was known for her outgoing personality, her love of telling jokes, and overall enthusiasm for life.  In her spare time Helen loved sewing, shopping, especially yard sales and Goodwill, collecting antiques, and swimming. She went to the YMCA to swim twice a week until her early 80’s.  Helen loved to travel and had visited many places.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Helen is survived by a son, David White (Dee), three daughters, Betty W. Foster, Ruth W. Kidd, and Lora W. Rosamond (Sidney Bowman); two grandchildren, Dean White (Melissa) and Jess Harris (Cameron); eight great-grandchildren, Katie White, Isaac White, Luke White, Eloise White, Nicholas Harris, Scarlett Harris, Jaden Harris, Eric Foster (Allison), and two great- great-grandchildren, Lucas and Graham Foster; a special niece, Susan Bowers (Randy), special nephew, Bruce Smith (Geralline), a sister-in-law, Iva Jean White and other nephews.  She was blessed to have many special caregivers and a wonderful Hospice team.   The family will receive friends at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church, Dobson, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm. Elder Avery Branch and Elder Joey Jenkins will officiate.  A brief graveside service led by Rev. Trent Lyons will be held afterward for family only.    Pallbearers will be Dean White, Isaac White, Luke White, Alan Bowers, Randy Bowers, and Derek White.  Honorary Pallbearers are Bruce Smith, Nicholas Harris, Dennis Haynes, Johnny Johnson, and Gayle Cave.  The family asks that donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care or flowers will be accepted.

The family will gather at the home of Betty Foster, 1407 Prison Camp Road, Dobson, to receive friends and family.  Moody-Davis Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
