Henry Urbanski Levering

Henry Urbanski Levering, 27, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, May 24 following a brief illness. He was the beloved son of Frank Levering of Ararat, Virginia and Wanda Urbanska of Raleigh, NC. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Henry’s life was filled with curiosity, talent, and adventure. He attended Mount Airy City Schools, Millennium Charter Academy, the British School in Warsaw, Poland, and Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC, ultimately graduating from high school in Texas. He later pursued studies at Santa Monica College in California, where he also worked as a barista at Starbucks—an experience he remembered fondly. As a child, Henry traveled extensively with his parents during the filming of "Simple Living with Wanda Urbanska" for national public television. One especially memorable episode included Henry shyly greeting former President Jimmy Carter aboard a moving train in Plains, Georgia. Henry was a natural storyteller and a young man of many gifts. An aspiring songwriter, skilled photographer, and computer whiz, he brought insight and humor to every conversation. After returning to Mount Airy in 2022, he worked for Lowe’s Home Improvement and later for the city’s Public Works Department. Each summer, he welcomed visitors to his family’s Levering Orchard, sharing in the joy of cherry season, capturing the beauty of nature through his lens, and engaging with pickers and customers alike. Henry will be remembered for his sharp mind, gentle spirit, and the way he made others feel seen. He is survived by his devoted parents, who deeply mourn the loss of their only child. Other survivors include aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, at 5 p.m. Trinity Episcopal Church, 472 N Main Street, in Mount Airy, NC, officiated by the Rev. Sarah Carper Morris, followed by a reception.
