Mr. Herman Everett “Toss” Belcher, age 81 of Woolwine, Virginia, passed away at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He was born in Patrick County on February 24, 1944, to the late Waller Everett Belcher and Beadie Elizabeth Hylton Belcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Wayne Belcher and Samuel Roy Belcher; sister, Elsie Marie Belcher; and special cousin Lawrence Hylton. Throughout his life, Everett was known for his dedication to his work, particularly during his time driving a logging truck. He was proud of being a hard worker, often reminiscing about how he loved working alongside his father and brother, Jimmy. He humorously claimed he never met a tree he couldn't cut, showcasing his passion for the work he did. In a testament to his hardworking nature, Everett retired three times.
Everett's personality shone through in his love for trading guns, knives, etc,. and joking with those around him. He had a warm heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed hunting and telling stories and tall tales, which brought him much joy throughout his life.
Though he never considered himself an animal person, he grew to love his two indoor cats and granddog.
Above all, Everett dearly loved his family. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a beloved "Papa" to his granddaughters, great-grandson, and he eagerly awaited the arrival of his soon-to-be great-granddaughter. His family was the center of his world, and he took immense joy in their lives.
Herman Everett Belcher will be remembered not just for his hard work and humor but for the love he shared with his family and friends. He leaves behind memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Belcher are his beloved wife of 59 ½ years, Carolyn Nolen Belcher of the home; children, Kenneth Everett Belcher (Darius Liptrap) of Christiansburg, and Connie Belcher Goode (David) of Woolwine; two granddaughters, Anna Goode Wray (Timothy) and Bethany Lynn Goode all of Woolwine; great-grandson, Carter Alan Wray; expected great-granddaughter, Kenna Marie Wray; sister, Annie Harmon (Willard) of Floyd, sisters-in-law, Brenda Barbour of Woolwine, Judy Nolen of Danville, and Teresa Belcher of Woolwine; nieces, Teresa Belcher, Melissa Turman, Marsha Hall, Darlene Belcher, Amber Brown; nephews, Jamie Barbour, Bradly Barbour, and Spencer Nolen; special family friend, Kevin Pridham of Christiansburg; and several cousins, and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Belcher will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Douglas Shough, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow in Jacks Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
