Hillary Benton "Red" Robertson

Mr. Hillary Benton "Red" Robertson, 80, of 21 Nature Boy Drive, Cana, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, August 13, 2008. Mr. Robertson was born February 23, 1928, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Floyd and Jessie Chappell Robertson. He retired from Bassett Furniture with more than 40 years of service and was a member of Flat Ridge Baptist Church. "Red" was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and was a friend to all who knew him. His passion was greeting as many people as he could and to help place a smile on their faces. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel King Robertson of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Cliff Milan of High Point and Gladys and Wayne Berrier of Cana, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Esther Robertson of Cana, VA; six grandchildren and spouses, Casey and Kristie Robertson, Jeremiah and Shaina Robertson, and Shaun and Kimberly Berrier, all of Cana, VA, Charlie and Debbie Dean of Archdale, Kevin Dean of High Point, and Alan and Chandau Dean of Thomasville; seven great-grandchildren, Faith Robertson, Hunter Robertson, and Kendra Berrier, all of Cana, VA, Hunter Dean and Trevor Dean, both of Archdale, and Bryce Dean and Reba Dean, both of Thomasville; a sister, Anna Mae Thomas of Cana, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Robertson; a sister, Ella "Rosie" Arrington; and five brothers, Billy Robertson, Anderson Robertson, Oscar Robertson, Cassell Robertson, and Donald Robertson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and the Rev. Robert Taylor, and burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The Robertson family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John W. Tracy and his staff, the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and Esther Robertson for the love, care, and compassion shown to "Red" during his illness.
