Mr. Howard Bernard “Bernie” Jackson, age 94, of State Road NC, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Novant Medical Center in Kernersville. He was born November 13, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Joseph Jackson and the late Nevada Amanda Howard Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lou Jean Brindle Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Elkin High School. After high school, he attended Brevard College, and later proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the 24th Division where was an infantryman. Mr. Jackson was a Bronze Star recipient and was a machine gunner and assistant Platoon Sergeant during the Korean War. He later served his country as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alleghany Post 7034 in Sparta, where he helped honor other veterans, and assist with the chicken fund raisers. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting, but in his later years he enjoyed just feeding the wildlife and listening to the NASCAR races on the radio.
Left to cherish his memories are his sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra and Howard Wilheim, stepson-in-law, Terry White and Betsy; and many nieces and nephews; and special friends Bunny and Becky Butcher. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Wilda Long, Wanda Harvey, Betty Davis and Ruthie Davis and his brothers, Billy Joe Jackson and Henry Purvis Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Salem Fork Baptist Church. Funeral Services for Mr. Jackson will begin at 2:00 PM, at Salem Fork Baptist Church, with Rev. Sean Joplin officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow in the Salem Fork Baptist Church Cemetery with full honors by Alleghany Post 7034 Honor Guard, and Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436 officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone NC 28607 Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is respectfully serving the Jackson family.
