Mr. Hubert Garland Marion, 89, of 335 Hadley Street, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, January 31, 2015, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Marion was born December 25, 1925, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Daniel Jesse and Sarah Combs Marion. Hubert served our country as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a machine operator from Mount Airy Furniture Company after many years of service and was a member, deacon, and choir director of Central Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lannie Alma Harold Marion of the home; Delma Lee and Ginger Beck of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberly and Joey Jenkins and Darrell and Lori Beck, all of Mount Airy; four great-grandchildren, Leslie Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins, Lilly Ruth Beck, and Lydia Beck, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marion was preceded in death by three sisters, Grady Marie Marion Leftwich, Pernie Marion Gunter, and Audrey Marion Jones; and a brother, Coy M. Marion. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 2, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Brother Ken Aman and the Rev. Ivan Dameron officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Dunmore Plantation and Central Continuing Care.
