Mrs. Ida Mae Lambert Johnson, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday afternoon, November 24, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Johnson was born July 12, 1924, in Surry County, the youngest child and only daughter born to the late Solomon Seaton and Minnie Lee Gillespie Lambert. She graduated from Dobson High School in May 1942, and married the love of her life, Sidney Johnson, on July 3, 1942, in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, by the Rev. Dr. Ralph Herring. Her survivors include three daughters and their families, Susan Sidney Johnson of Mount Airy; Jean and Steve Ingram of Mount Airy and their children, Daniel and his friend, Taylor Woody, of Blowing Rock and Kelly of Raleigh; Dawn and Myron Marion of Tobaccoville and their children, Andrew and his fiancée, Chelene Jordan, of High Point, John of Boone, and Emily of Tobaccoville. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by five brothers, Roger, Leonard, Frank, John William "Bill," and Clifford Lambert. Mrs. Johnson was an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, having been baptized in July 1939. She was a member of the Good Neighbor Extension and Community Association (Home Demonstration Club) with 62 years of perfect attendance. She enjoyed gardening and mowing her lawn, arts and crafts, needlework, and spending time with her family. She was retired from school food service at Dobson Elementary School. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. and the Rev. Kermit L. Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home and Home Instead Senior Care, especially Tonya Cave, Jan Carpenter, Jean McMillian, and Doris Hutson. Flowers will be accepted, or contributions in her memory can be given to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
