Iris Hazlewood Hylton, age 85 of Danville, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on April 13, 1930 to the late Joseph Samuel and Wayra Gunter Hazlewood. In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethelyne Creasey, Thelma Martin and Doris Ellen Martin. She was a member of North Main Baptist Church in Danville.
Iris is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Lynn Hughes of Brosville, Beth and Jim Deleharty of Washington, DC; one son, Frank Hylton of Laurel Fork; granddaughters, Brynn Daniel and husband, Jacob of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jeri Buckner and husband, Michael of Danville; a great-grandson, Beven Grey Daniel; one sister, Faye Staples of Ridgeway; a brother, Lee Hazlewood of Patrick Springs; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mary Ann and Judy Elliott and Pauline Osborne.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Gunter Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home, 128 Carrollton Road, Danville, Virginia. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Iris's caregivers, Pat, Priscilla, Cindy and Jackie, and to the nurses and staff of Liberty Homecare and Hospice.
