Mrs. Issie Mae Gilley Cockerham, 93, widow of Mr. Claude Cockerham, of Dobson passed away peacefully on Saturday May 24, 2008 at Dunmore Plantation surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on August 2, 1914 to the late Haywood Lee "Bud" and Julie Ann Lowe Gilley. Mrs. Cockerham was a homemaker and a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters and sons-in-law, Maebelle and Price Hawks, Peggy and Jeffery Hodges and a son and daughter-in-law Jimmie and Carolyn Cockerham all of Dobson. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by two sons, Harrison Haywood Cockerham and Russell Cockerham; a sister and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday May 27, 2008 at Rocky Ford Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Adams and Rev. Claude Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Monday May 26, 2008 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service, and other times at the home of her daughter, Peggy 130 Jepe Farm Lane Dobson. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. E. Wilson Griffin and staff and to the staff and residents of Dunmore Plantation, especially her roommate, Susie Stanley for all the compassionate love and care given to Mrs. Cockerham during her stay there.
