Jack Edward Arrington, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, after a lengthy illness. One of six children, he was born on March 20, 1943, in Surry County, to the late Lester and Essie Arrington Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Letisha, who was truly the love of his life and whom he missed every day; his sister, Hilda Bowen, who was his playmate growing up; and his brothers-in-law, Alan Bowen, Tom Edwards, and Jim Edmiston. He is survived by his daughter, Amy Pigg and her significant other, Roger Thompson; two brothers, Harvey Arrington (Jean) and Dennis Arrington (Lynn); and a half-brother, Mitchell Arrington; two sisters, Ethelene Edwards and Barbara Edmiston; two half-sisters, Ruth Williams and Patricia Vestal; a stepsister, Judy Stevens; his grandchildren, Cory and Jordan Thompson, Catlyn Thompson, Renee McCreary, and Nicole Shore; and his great-grandchildren, James McCreary, Andrew McCreary, Beau Thompson, Layla Hiatt, and Lacey Hiatt. Jack endured many hardships growing up, but he overcame them all and was a shining light in every way. He was at home with the prince and the pauper and called everyone “Honey.” He truly had a servant’s heart and was an advocate for the downtrodden. One of his greatest spiritual gifts was visiting people and encouraging them. He loved his family so dearly and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He was always ready to step in and help family or friends, whether it was doing manual labor or sharing his wisdom. He had many talents which included being a masterful carpenter, master gardener and a great story teller. He also loved bluegrass music and had the radio blasting all the time. He loved animals and would feed all the strays that wandered into his yard. He especially enjoyed meeting his buddies for breakfast at McDonalds for many years. Jack was a faithful member of Hope Community Church, where he was loved and cared for by the congregation and his wonderful pastor, mentor, and friend, Anthony Thomas. He also had special friends, Randy and Diane Moore and William Keith. Donna Lockhart and Donna Denson were his angels on earth who helped and guided him in so many ways. All his nieces and nephews loved their Uncle Jack, and he loved them back. He will be missed! The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Anthony Thomas, Rev. Darius Collins, and Dr. Jonathan Casstevens officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
