Mr. Jack Dennis Lowe, 70, of 191 Wood Ridge Lane, Lowgap, passed away Tuesday night, June 3, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Lowe was born October 26, 1943, in Surry County, one of three children born to the late Lawrence Jenkins Lowe and Dorothy Mae Ferguson Lowe. Jack proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He retired as a truck driver from Petroleum Transport after 31 years of service and was an avid outdoorsman, with a special love of fishing and hunting. Mr. Lowe was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, and he attended Holy Cross Baptist Church until his health declined. Above all, Jack loved his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lou Thomas Lowe of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, MaryAnn and Donnie Hester of Dobson and Hope Lane Lowe and her special friend, John, of Mount Airy; a son, Scott Badgett and his special friend, Hope Atkins, of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Zachary Hester, Leanna Myers, Brittany Myers, Katelyn Badgett, Jaden Badgett Brinkley, Bailey Badgett, Christopher Newsome, and Jayson Lowe; a brother and sister-in-law, Woltz Gray and Betty Lowe of Glade Valley; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda and Chris Lawson, Edward and Debbie Thomas, and Billy Thomas and his fiancée, Cathy Hamm, all of Mount Airy, and Roger and Mary Ellen Thomas of Westfield; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by a son, Jason Douglas Badgett; a sister, JoAnn Lowe Collins; and a niece, Robin Annette Collins. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 6, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Baptist Church, with the Rev. Butch Holder, the Rev. Arlis Thomas, and the Rev. Zane Fishel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Also, the family is grateful to the congregations of Holy Cross Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church for their prayers, calls, visits, and food. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
