Mr. Jack Tillotson Marion, 82, of 3470 Ararat Road, Ararat, passed away Thursday evening, August 14, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Marion was born March 27, 1932, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late J.A. and Ruth Riddle Marion. Jack graduated from Copeland High School in 1951 and later served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service and also worked alongside his wife, Patty, in their family business, Marion's Jewelry. Mr. Marion was a longtime member of Blackwater United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patty Danley Marion of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tony and Janice Marion and Tim Marion, all of Ararat; five grandchildren, David Marion and his wife, Kelly, of Mount Airy, Leigh Marion of Winston-Salem, Will Marion of Nashville, TN, and Peyton Marion and Timothy Jack Marion, II, both of Ararat; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pandora and Joe Darnell of Advance and Nan and the Rev. Greg Simmons of Ararat; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Johnny and Debbie Marion of Claudville, VA, and Billy Jay Marion of Clemmons. A service of worship and a celebration of Jack's life will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Blackwater United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack Danley, the Rev. Greg Simmons, and the Rev. Ted Turman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
