James Matthew Ayers

Mr. James Matthew Ayers, 75, of 2012 Bear Trail, Cana, VA, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at his home. Mr. Ayers was born August 2, 1939, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Ewell and Lucy Gwynn Ayers. He retired as the owner and operator of Ayers Produce in Pulaski, VA, and was a member of the Christian faith. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Marie Wagoner Ayers of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kitty and Steve Tate of Mount Airy, Judy and Howard Williams of Cana, VA, and Carolyn and Chuck Whitt of Dobson; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mike and Lisa Ayers of Ararat, VA, and Larry Ayers and his fiancée, Janette Sprouse, and Gary and Lucretia Ayers, all of Cana, VA; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Ann Collins and Dot and Johnny Vernon, all of Cana, VA, and Christine and Charlie Mabe of Mount Airy; and seven brothers and five sisters-in-law, Troy and Ann Ayers, Bobby and Marcia Ayers, Daniel and Shirley Ayers, Kenneth Ayers, and J.C. Ayers, all of Cana, VA, and Clinton and Sandra Ayers and J.D. and Bonnie Ayers, all of Dobson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Ayers. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Bear Trail Baptist Church, with the Rev. Timmy Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Bear Trail Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thanks to his caregiver, Janette Sprouse, Dr .Stephen Potts and his staff, and the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the care given to Mr. Ayers.
