James Richard (Rick) Brown of Mount Airy passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Rick was born on June 3, 1937 to the late Sally Ruth Pickett and James Lawrence Brown both of Durham, NC. Rick is survived by his daughter, Vicky B Key of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter Lindsey Flinchum of Seattle, WA and a sister Sheila Yearby of Durham, NC. Rick was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Linda M. Brown. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rachel Brooks officiating and afterward a graveside service at Skyline Memorial Gardens.

Rick retired from Proctor-Silex after 40 years of employment. He served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Ajax (AR-6). Rick was a past master of the Granite Lodge 322 and actively served in the lodge for 61 years, also serving as Secretary of Granite Lodge 322 for 22 years. Rick had numerous hobbies and interests, he was a self-taught duck carver, wood worker and furniture builder, and fixer/collector of many things.
