James Richard Brown

Mr. James Richard “Rick” Brown, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, SC. Rick was born June 3, 1937, to the late Sally Ruth Pickett and James Lawrence Brown, both of Durham. Rick is survived by his daughter, Vicky B. Key of Myrtle Beach, SC; his granddaughter, Lindsey Flinchum of Seattle, WA; and his sister, Sheila Yearby of Durham. In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Linda M. Brown. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rachael Brooks officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. Rick retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after 40 years of dedicated service. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Ajax (AR-6). A devoted member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 A.F. & A.M., Rick served the lodge faithfully for 61 years, including 22 years as secretary and was a past master. Rick had many hobbies and interests. He was a self-taught duck carver, woodworker, and furniture builder, and he enjoyed fixing and collecting a wide variety of items. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
