James Roger Cox

Mr. James Roger Cox, 95 of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Ridgecrest Retirement. Mr. Cox was born in Surry County on June 19, 1919 to the late William Albert and Dora Bell Stewart Cox. He was retired from Duke Power. Mr. Cox proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII. He is survived by a sister, Maude Cox; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lib Cox; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle English Cox; four sisters, Beulah Hamilton, Hazel Kayler, Irene Hicks, and Ila Bell Cox; a brother, Raymond Cox. A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery with Rusty Cox speaking. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy until time to depart to the cemetery for the service. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Roger Kerley, the staff at Ridgecrest, the staff of American Home Health, and to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to James.
