Mr. James Edward “Ed” McIntyre, age 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday evening, June 25, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. McIntyre was born in Surry County, on September 29, 1940, to the late James Vernon and Ollie Butcher McIntyre. Ed was a member of Christ Community Church of Mount Airy, were he served the Lord and sang the many gospel songs that he loved. Ed sought a career when he was 18 years old at radio stations WSYD and WPAQ. He dreamed of having a job as a news reporter, which indeed he was very successful at. Ed had moved to Raleigh, landing him as a News Reporter at WRAL TV. Later on, as he improved in his career, he worked at many other stations along the way. After working for more than 20 years as a news reporter and news director, Ed eventually retired in 2006, in Rome, Georgia, from WKCX radio. Surviving Ed is his loving wife of the home, Toni McIntyre; 3 daughters, Doreen Tucker of Seminole, Florida, Vicki Masek of Atlanta, Georgia, and Crystal Butts of Palm Harbor, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. McIntyre was preceded in death by a son, James Lee McIntyre. There will be no formal services held at this time. The family and close friends will hold a celebration of life service at a later date. His family is so grateful to all the EMT’s, Novant doctors and nurses, the people of Mt. Airy Hospital, and Mountain Valley Hospice for all the care and compassion shown during Eds sickness. Also, a special thanks to pastor Dr. David Brady and his wife, his brothers and sisters in Christ for all the prayers, cards and phone calls. To his best friends, Mike Willard, Carlos Delfin, Tim Barclay, Mills and Cheryl Fitzner. To the owners and friends of WKCX radio in Rome, Georgia, thank you for allowing Ed the many years of fulfilling his dream. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the McIntyre family.
