James Franklin Goins, “Jim”, 71, of Sherrills Ford, NC, peacefully went to be with the Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born October 23, 1953, in Mount Airy, NC, son of the late Rev. Charlie and Arlein Goins.
Jim dedicated his life to serving others—whether through his military career, his hands-on skills, or his deep commitment to his church and community. He served honorably in the United States Air Force, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, and Rhein Main Air Force Base in Germany. After his military service, he went on to work as a Government Liaison Officer at Letterkenny Army Depot in Pennsylvania and Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, where his leadership and dedication made a lasting impact.
Never one to sit still, Jim poured his energy into remodeling homes, construction projects, and volunteering at his church—especially when it came to building props for various holidays and service themes. He was happiest working with his hands, always finding purpose in helping others and honoring the Lord through his work. He will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, adventurous spirit, and unwavering faith. Jim lived a full and meaningful life, always giving more than he received.
A lover of the outdoors, he was an avid marathon runner in his younger years. In more recent years, Jim enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and spending time on his boat at Lake Norman. He found joy in reading his daily devotionals with a cup of coffee on the front porch, riding on his John Deere tractor, and fulfilling his dream of owning a log cabin on the lake.
A devoted family man, servant-hearted worker, and proud veteran, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and hard work. Most important to him was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, Paw Paw, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves a legacy to be cherished by his survivors; his wife Lynn Goins; and his children and grandchildren, his son James Goins Jr. and wife, Emily of Columbus, GA (Josiah and Norah), and daughter Erin Farmer and husband, Brad of Concord, NC (Haylee, Brody, and Rylee). Jim is also survived by his sisters, Therisa Dianne Bowman (Bobby) of Ararat, VA, Sarah Houston (Jackie) of Mount Airy, NC, and Rebecca Walsh (Tim) of Murrells Inlet, SC.
