Mr. James Vance Goad, Sr., 82, of Mount Airy, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born February 22, 1932, in Surry County, to the late George and Dora Sutphin Goad. Mr. Goad was a retired car dealer and a member of Westside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Key Goad of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Mitzi Goad of Mount Airy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and David Johnson of White Plains, Sandra and Bob Smith of Greensboro, and Terri Hayes of Atlanta, GA; two stepsons, David Michael Cooke of Mount Airy and Douglas Eugene Cooke of Maryville, KY; six grandchildren and their spouses, David Brandon and Tedi Sue Johnson, Dustin Michael Johnson, Brittany Cooke, Adrianna Culler, and Miriam Culler, all of Mount Airy, Shannon Cooke Whitt and Ryan of King, and Preston Hayes and Laura Hayes, both of Atlanta, GA; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Goldie and Earl Vogler of Pfafftown; three brothers and a sister-in-law, George and Mary Goad and Ray Goad, all of Mount Airy, and Glenn Goad of Jonesville; and a very "special poodle," Huey. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goad was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Haley, Virgie Pardue, and Ruby Jackson; and two brothers, Willie Goad and Ralph Goad. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 15, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express a "special thanks" to the staff at Golding Living Center for their care given to Mr. Goad during his illness.
