James Odell Jackson, Sr

Mr. James Odell Jackson, Sr., 77, of 147 Bank Street, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, May 31, 2012, at his home. Mr. Jackson was born May 22, 1935, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late James Marlin and Macella Cruise Jackson. James served our country in the United States Air Force during the 1960s. He retired as a highway inspector from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 34 years of service and was a member and deacon of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Esther Semones Jackson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Odell Jackson, Jr. and Karen Jackson and Richard and Deborah Jackson, all of Mount Airy; a grandson, Seth Andrew Jackson of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Larry Wood of Thurmond; and three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Virginia Goad and Elizabeth Lawson, both of Mount Airy, and Mildred and Egbert Jones of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
