Obituary

Obituary for James “Jamie” Dexter Hawks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jamie” Dexter Hawks, who left this world on November 6th, 2025, at the age of 52. Born on October 23rd, 1973, in Surry County, Jamie was a beloved son of Vestal Gray Hawks and Peggy Joyce Doss Hawks, both of whom preceded him in death. A man defined by his dedication and love for his family, Jamie was a hardworking brick mason who took immense pride in his work. He believed deeply in the value of hard work and made it his mission to provide for his loved ones. Jamie was not only a provider but also a loving husband, father, brother, and friend — a man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His laughter was infectious, and he had a gift for bringing joy to others through his humor and his endless supply of dad jokes. On February 14th 2015, Jamie married the love of his life, Tabitha Ann Cagle Hawks, at White Plains Baptist Church. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love, partnership, and shared dreams. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Jamie is survived by his devoted wife, Tabitha Hawks; his children Abigail Hawks and Chase Marshall, Gabrielle “Gabby” Hawks, and Israel “Little Man” Hawks; and his stepson Isaac and wife Kara Burton; grandchildren, Jaxon and Cowboy Burton. his siblings Clifford and Janet Hawks, Hope Hemmerick, Sparky and Amanda Hawks, and many loving nieces and nephews. He will also be missed dearly by his special friends Ross Payne and Brad Jones. Jamie’s family was his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them — especially during family trips, fishing, and get-togethers where good food and laughter were shared. A memorial service to honor Jamie’s life will be held at White Plains Baptist Church on November 13th, 2025. Viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. All who knew and loved Jamie are invited to join in celebrating the life of a remarkable man whose spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. In this time of grief, the Hawks family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have stood by them. “A special thank you to everyone who’s been there for our family. Your thoughts, prayers, and gestures of love have meant more than words can say. We’re truly grateful to have such caring friends and family by our side, reminding us that we are not alone.” Though Jamie may no longer walk among us, his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion will remain forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Jamie — you will be missed, but never forgotten.
