James Arthur Marion

Mr. James Arthur "Sonny" Marion, 68, of 143 Mayes Haven Lane, Mount Airy, passed away early Sunday morning, June 28, 2015, at PruittHealth of Elkin. Mr. Marion was born October 12, 1946, in Columbus, OH, one of five children born to the late Melvin James and Mary Louise Tourangeau Marion. Sonny worked as a general laborer at Dobson Bag Company, the family-owned business, for many years. He is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Dianna Marion Mullins of Pilot Mountain, Sandy Marion Speakman of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Barbara and Pete George of Danville, VA; and a sister-in-law, Jo Ann East Marion of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marion was preceded in death by a brother, Dannie Allen Marion; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Wayne Mullins and Donald Speakman. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is in charge of the cremation and arranging the burial to take place with his late parents. A graveside memorial service will be Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Bass officiating. There will not be a formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
