James Edward Poore Sr.

Mr. James Edward Poore Sr, age 91, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  He was born on July 10, 1931, in Henry County to the late Lacy and Lela White Poore.  James was the second man hired at John S. Clark where he worked for 38 years. There he built numerous projects across the southeast.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, mowing, watching the Yankees play, Nascar, and his family.  Mr. Poore proudly serviced our country in the United States Army.  He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will surely be missed by all who knew him.  Left to cherish his memory are daughter and son-in-law, Kim McDowell (Jerry); son and daughter-in-law, James “Jimmy’ Poore Jr. (Mitzi); grandchildren, Shannon Mayer (Bill), Whitney Golding (Chad), Meagan Poore, Abby Poore and her fiancé Jason Hooker; great-grandchildren, Sophia Mayer, Katy Mayer, Bristol Golding, Bryson Golding, Will, Zach, and Brad Mayer; sister, Ruth Simmons; brother, Lester Poore; special cousin, Lonnie Jackson.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Poore was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Poore, and brother, Joe Poore.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Alex Martin . Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with Military Honors by VFW Post #2019 of Mt. Airy, and Post #9436 of Pilot Mountain.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 PM until time for the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  The family would like to say a special thanks to Northern Regional Hospital and Mountain Valley Hospice for their excellent care of Papa.
