Mr. James Lloyd "Jamie" Turner, Sr., age 83 of Martinsville, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on September 20, 1929 to the late John Homer and Clemmie Kendrick Turner. Being the second oldest child, he started working at the age of 16 to help care for and educate his family, along with his other brothers and sister. He worked at Dan River Mills, drove a truck for Roy Stone Sawmills in North Carolina, and was a supervisor at Stanley Furniture and Bassett Furniture. Later, he owned and managed two Peoples Gas Stations, one at Villa Heights and the other at Bassett Forks. He was a member of the Patrick Springs Church of God of Prophecy, and later a member of the Collinsville Church of God of Prophecy where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for 18 years.
Mr. Turner married D. Anne Shelton on March 3, 1989, and they enjoyed a happy life together. In addition to his wife, who resides at their home in Martinsville, Mr. Turner is survived by one daughter, Patsy T. Miles of Henry County; one son, James Lloyd "Crow" Turner, Jr. of Patrick County; two step-daughters, Jo Anne Owen and Cathy Marie Merricks, both of Campbell County; ten grandchildren; one sister, Marlene Dalton; nine brothers, William, Allen, Samuel, Ted, Mitchell, J.D., Jason, Landis and Nathan Turner; and 31 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner will be held Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Patrick Springs Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Tom Warren and Pastor Michael Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Burial Park in Danville. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
