Oakdale Cemetery
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
James Anderson “Andy” Webb passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, after several months of declining health. He was born in Mount Airy, NC to Lewis and Lou Webb on November 24, 1949. Andy grew up in Mount Airy and graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1968. He then followed in his father's footsteps and attended North Carolina State University where he graduated in 1974.
After college he became a professional photographer. He then went to work at Surry Community College as a member of their technology staff. For the next three decades he helped the college grow with telephone systems, internet services and audio-visual development.
Andy was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy. He enjoyed helping to upgrade the audio-visual needs of the church for many years.
In 1975, Andy became an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America. Through his fifty years of scouting service Andy volunteered with Troop 542 and Troop 538. He also served on the Dogwood District Committee and was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. In addition, he received the Silver Beaver Award, the District Award of Merit and the Good Shepherd Award. He worked tirelessly at Camp Raven Knob to upgrade communications abilities within the camp.
Andy was a devoted ham radio operator. He helped countless others get their amateur radio license. His commitment to growing the ham radio community cannot be overstated. This started at an early age with “CB” radios and was his passion for most of his later years.
