Mrs. Jane Carpenter Bean, 62, of 1651 Fancy Gap Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, May 25, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Bean was born April 9, 1949, in Surry County, daughter of the late Luther Lee and Betty Marie Atkins Carpenter. Jane was formerly employed as a clerk at Tucker and Dezern Grocery. She is survived by her husband, David Eugene Bean of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Christopher Hall of Lambsburg, VA; a granddaughter, Sarah Ana-Marie Sumner of Ararat; a grandson, Austin Brower Sumner of Ararat; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Dewey and Clair Carpenter, Johnny and Jan Carpenter, and Patty Sykes Carpenter, all of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Geneva Bean of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bean was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Glenn Carpenter. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 27, 2011, at 12:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Heart and Vascular Research, Wake Forest Baptist Health, Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
