Janet Lynn Riggs Carpenter

Mrs. Janet Lynn “Jan” Riggs Carpenter, 65, of Mount Airy, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 7, 2023, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Mrs. Carpenter was born September 14, 1957, in Surry County, one of three daughters born to the late Bobby Lee and Dorothy Franklin Johnson Riggs.  Jan worked as an inspector at Spencer’s Inc. for many years.  She later worked at Pine State Knitwear, Lifespan Services, and Home Instead Senior Care.  Jan tirelessly served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of Community Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.  She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Neal Horton of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Savannah Carpenter of Boonville; five adored grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Bryson Horton and Amelia Horton, both of Mount Airy, and Kennedy Carpenter, Tripp Carpenter, and Kinleigh Carpenter, all of Boonville; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, the Rev. Ricky Thomas, Tim Wilson, Dewey and Clair Carpenter, and Patty S. Carpenter, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, John David “Johnny” Carpenter; two sisters, Brenda Gail Riggs Thomas and Vickie Ann Riggs Wilson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Luther Lee and Betty Marie Atkins Carpenter; a sister-in-law, Jane Carpenter Bean; and a brother-in-law, Roger Glenn Carpenter.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bradley L. Quesinberry, the Rev. Caleb Thomas, and the Rev. Kenneth Jessup officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:30 until 4:00 PM at the church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
