Janet Louise Wells

Janet Louise Wells, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 after a long battle with dementia. Born on September 21, 1942, the daughter of Menno and Adella Finkbeiner of Saginaw Michigan, Janet was the youngest of five children. She was of Lutheran faith throughout her life. After graduating from Arthur Hill High School, Janet obtained her registered nursing degree from the Hurley School of Nursing. She had an extensive nursing career, which included labor and delivery, school nursing, psychiatric care, home health care, and working for the Red Cross. Janet and her family were very proud of both her nursing degree and her lifetime of helping others. Janet took time away from nursing to raise her three children. She enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, especially arts and crafts. She was a talented artist and loved sewing Halloween costumes for her kids. Janet also passed her love of poetry and music on to her children. She played the guitar and could be heard harmonizing in perfect pitch while singing in church. Janet was a natural at playing cards, especially Euchre and Bridge. She had many lifelong friends who enjoyed her wonderful sense of humor which she maintained even through her illness. Janet loved gardening, with red geraniums being her favorite. Janet is survived by daughters Jennifer Adams of Mount Airy, Melissa (husband Mark) Carson of Sheffield Village, OH, and son Justin (wife Becky) Wells of West Jefferson, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren Caleb and Cameron Adams, Alex (wife Jessica) Carson, Sean (wife Abbey) Carson, and Emerson and Owen Wells, two great-granddaughters, Callie Carson and Sadie Carson, along with many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her former husband Lamont William “Bill” Wells, siblings Verna Ledtke, Mary Wedding, Ronny Finkbeiner and Roger Finkbeiner. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to acknowledge the outstanding care that she received from Mountain Valley Hospice. They are truly angels on earth and can be reached at P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017.
