Mrs. Janie Ray Jessup Draughn, age 85 of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Draughn was born on April 17, 1940, in Surry County to the late Ulysses and Ila Surratt Jessup. Janie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi Draughn Poore (Jimmy); grandchildren, Abby Poore Hooker (Jason), Meagan Poore; two step great-grandchildren, Alex Hooker, Kenzie Hooker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rudy Draughn (Karen); Richard Starr; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Draughn was preceded in death by her husband, Gene David Draughn; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Jessup Gorley, Eunice Jessup Marion (James); brother, Bobby Jessup; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lonnie Draughn (Faye), Jimmy Draughn (Effie), Peggy Mosley (Everett), Bertie Starr. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Reverend Chris Dotson and Reverend Alex Martin officiating. Internment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville, for the compassionate care provided to Mrs. Draughn over the past three years. Additionally, to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for loving care shown to Mrs. Draughn for the past year and a half. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, North Carolina 27017.
