J.D. Simmons, born on February 7, 1948, in Mount Airy, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, at the age of 78. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, J.D. is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Vikki Simmons; daughters Sherra Kriston and Andrea Kramer; son-in-laws Jim Kriston and Ryan Kramer; sister Patricia Leonard; brother Randall Simmons; grandchildren Garrett Kriston, Mark Myers, Hannah Myers, Jeremiah Kramer, Ariel Kramer, Jordan Kramer, and Journey Kramer; as well as great-grandsons Trecy Myers, Elijah Myers, and Jack-Ryan Kramer.

A faithful minister and dedicated servant of Jesus, J.D.'s life revolved around his family and his unwavering faith. He found joy in watching his daughters play basketball, sharing laughter with family and friends, and enjoying spirited games of Rook-though he was known to bend the rules whenever he was losing. A true sports enthusiast, J.D. was an ardent supporter of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, eagerly following their games. His love for golf provided many cherished moments on the course, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of friends, and never allowing his sons in law to win.

Though unable to have a dog due to family rules, J.D.'s love for animals remained evident. He lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering faith, exemplifying the teachings of Jesus to all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Riverhills Church, 6310 E. Sligh Ave. Tampa, Florida 33617
