Jean Elizabeth Smith Cook

Mrs. Jean Elizabeth Smith Cook age 86 of Mt. Airy, NC. widow of the late Charles H. Cook, Jr. passed away Friday February 21, 2014 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Cook was born August 8, 1927 in Surry County to the late Davis Reid and Irene Gates Smith, she was a retired from the Patrick County School System where she taught business for 32 years. Mrs. Cook was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Airy. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Rita Cook Howell and her husband Dennis of Boonville and Lou Ann Cook and her husband James Hoffer of Dahlonega, GA., two grandsons Davis Cook Howell and Benjamin Charles Howell both of Boonville, one great grandchild Payton Jade Howell and by one brother Davis Reid Smith, Jr. In addition to her parents and her husband Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by a grandson Drew Benjamin Howell, by a sister Hester Joyce and by a brother Fred D. Smith. A graveside service will be held Sunday February 23, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Oakdale Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 3:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Airy with services conducted by Rev. Rob Evans. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church,326 South Main St. Mt. Airy, NC. 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mt. Airy will be assisting the Cook Family.
