Jerry Lee Roop

Mr. Jerry Lee Roop, 54, of 2019 Willis Gap Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009. Mr. Roop was born September 24, 1954, in Montgomery County, VA, to Marvin Ray Roop and the late Virginia Dowdy Roop. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Roop of the home; a daughter, Pamela Lydon and fiance, Josh Mayes, of Riner, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jessica Roop of Riner, VA; stepdaughters and their spouses, Wendy and Fortino Ruiz, Christina Harris, and Natasha Smith, all of Mount Airy, Kimberly Gates of the home, and Tonya and Chris Lynch of Pinnacle; a stepson and his spouse, Randy Hamm, Jr. and Debra of Del City, OK; two grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jim and Teresa Roop and Jackie Roop, all of Christiansburg, VA, and Larry and Sharon Roop of Radford, VA; and a special friend, Danny Thornton of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Butch Holder, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is assisting the Roop family.
