Jesse William Payne

Mr. Jesse William Payne, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Payne was born January 18, 1933, in Patrick County, VA, one of nine sons born to the late James “Jim” and Minnie Lou Lankford Payne.  Jesse owned and operated Payne Logging for many years and was a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Savannah McBride Payne of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Steve Vass of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael “Mike” and Judy Payne of Mount Airy, Mitchell and Mary Jill Payne of Hamptonville, and Matthew and Amber Payne of Tobaccoville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon Vass, Hannah and Jeffery Vass, Brady and Jasmine Payne, Dylan Payne, Ethan Payne, Bryson Payne, Mattie Payne, and Henry Payne; four great-grandchildren, Noah Payne, Luke Payne, Autumn Payne, and Sophie Vass; two sisters-in-law, Bonita “Bonnie” Payne of Mount Airy and Irene Payne of Sanford; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by two infant brothers; and six brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Claudia Payne, Robert “Bob” Payne, Thomas “Tom” and Jerlean Payne, John Payne, Buford Payne, and Irby Payne.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Darren Slate and Wayne Payne officiating.  Burial will follow in the Payne Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC  27017.
